Sub Rosa is a great idea: basically, a multiplayer shooter that's designed to dynamically produce Mexican stand-offs between players. In any case, it's nice to see the game opening up to a larger audience. The game's Steam page explains that it "has been in Early Access for years now, albeit hidden from the store and relying on word of mouth to build a small but motivated community of fans around the world." This method of release was referred to in 2017 as "earliest access" by some of that 'word of mouth', aka a marketing tweet by its publisher Devolver. Sub Rosa has been available to buy elsewhere for a long time, and SteamDB suggests it has been available on Steam since 2014. Publisher Devolver Digital marked the occasion with a new cinematic trailer that introduces the multiplayer first-person shooter's slapstick deals and double-crosses. I first played Sub Rosa around nine years ago, but it's only today reached Steam Early Access.

We were able to build an incredible community around the game, with a large modding scene that expanded it in even more new directions.īut even after all these years, we as developers feel that we have more to add in new and still unexplored ways. We raised over half a million dollars for children affected by the horrors of war all over the world. “The Little Ones” DLC in particular focused attention on the challenges of growing up during wartime and was followed by an amazing cooperation with War Child, a nonprofit creating programs in multiple nations to help young people cope with the traumas of conflict. Since the launch of This War Of Mine, the game’s grim world has been constantly expanding, allowing us to return to this bleak but unique place and examine the consequences of war from different perspectives. It’s been four long years since we’ve visited the war-torn Pogoren for the first time. |
